NB. Please note that the instructions for the pre-identification process have been updated on October 11, 2023 at 11:30 Finnish time (UTC/GMT+3). Please carefully read the updated instructions. The pre-identification process deadline has been extended. Please complete the pre-identification process by 13 October 2023 at 15:00 Finnish time (UTC/GMT+3) at the latest.

  • For applicants who have not successfully completed the identity verification in Candour ID, a new invitation email with a link for the pre-identification process was sent on October 11, 2023. NB: Do not use the link from the invitation email you received on October 9th. You can also complete the pre-identification process via the following link: https://login.uasexam.fi/.
  • If you have successfully completed the identity verification in Candour ID by 10:00 Finnish time (UTC/GMT+3) on October 11 but have not yet registered with SMOWL, you have received an email with a link to register with SMOWL on October 11, 2023. You can also complete the pre-identification process via the following link: https://login.uasexam.fi/.
  • If you have successfully completed the entire pre-identification process (Candour & SMOWL) by 10:00 Finnish time (UTC/GMT+3) on October 11, you will not receive an email, and you do not need to perform the pre-identification process again.

Verifying your identity

You have to verify your identity to be able to participate in the first phase written exam and proceed in the International UAS Exam selection process.

The identification process consists of two phases:

  1. Before the first phase written exam, you have to complete a pre-identification process within an indicated time limit. You will receive an invitation to the pre-identification to the email address given in your application form on 11 October 2023 at the latest and the pre-identification process has to be completed on 13 October 2023 at 15:00 Finnish time (UTC/GMT+3) at the latest (please note that a new invitation email was sent on October 11, and the pre-identification process deadline has been extended). The email will be sent only once so please make sure that you have space in your inbox. If necessary, also check your spam and other folders.

You can also complete the pre-identification process within the time period indicated above via the following link: https://login.uasexam.fi/. When logging in, please give the same number of your passport/identity card and the PIN code that you already gave in your Studyinfo application.

The pre-identification process consists of identification by the Candour ID mobile application and registration to the Smowl proctoring software. In order to successfully pass the pre-identification process, the information you provide in both phases of the pre-identification process must match.

  2. Those applicants who have passed the pre-identification process will be invited to the first phase written exam. On the exam day, you have to verify your identity again while logging in to the entrance exam.

You need the following for verifying your identity:

For the identity verification process, you have to submit the following information on the Studyinfo application form:

  • The number of the biometric passport or EU/EEA identity card
  • Also, a copy of the said passport/identity card has to be attached to the application form on 21 September 2023 at 15:00 Finnish time (UTC/GMT+3) at the latest

For the applicant to be able to verify their identify for the first phase written exam and proceed in the International UAS Exam selection process, the number of the passport/identity card submitted to the application form has to be same as the number of the document attached to the application. The universities of applied sciences may modify the information submitted to the application form for the purposes of identification if the information is incorrect and/or mutually contradictory.

Completing the pre-identification process on 11-13 October 2023

Some applicants have had issues with reading the chip in the Candour ID application. Therefore, the identity verification process in Candour ID will be modified to allow for two different methods:

  1. Reading the chip of the passport/ID card.
  2. If chip reading fails or you don’t have a biometric passport, you can proceed without reading the chip.

Due to the issue, the pre-identification process deadline has been extended. Please complete the pre-identification process by 13 October 2023 at 15:00 Finnish time (UTC/GMT+3) at the latest. The pre-identification process consists of identification by the Candour ID mobile application and registration to the SMOWL proctoring software.

Please see detailed instructions below.

Please note! When you perform the identity verification in the Candour ID application, do not close the verification starting page in your browser at any point. Once you have completed the identity verification in the Candour ID application, make sure to return to the browser and wait patiently until you are redirected to the view where you can proceed to Smowl registration.

Instructions for completing the pre-identification process

Download the Candour ID application on your mobile phone (available in App Store or Google Play). Follow the application’s instructions carefully.

You have to complete the following phases in the pre-identification process:

  1. Please use the same passport/identity card in the Candour ID whose number you have already given on your Studyinfo application form.
  2. Take a picture of your passport/identity card in the Candour ID:
    • The application verifies that the number of your passport/identity card matches with the number given in Studyinfo and that the passport/id card is valid.
    • NB: you have three attempts in this phase (ID photo).
  3. Read the information of your passport/identity card with your phone’s NFC in the Candour ID.
  4. If reading the chip is not successful or you don’t have a biometric passport, you can proceed without chip reading.
    • Android: If chip reading fails, click the “Nothing happens?” button, and in the pop-up view, click “Begin optical verification.”
    • iOS: If chip reading fails, click “cancel” or wait for the “Failed” notification, then click “Perform optical verification.”
    • If you are verifying your identity with an identity card, take a picture of the front side of the identity card.
  5. Take a selfie in the Candour ID.
    • The selfie is compared to the facial image on your passport/id card.
    • NB: you have three attempts in this phase (Selfie).
  6. Make sure to return to the browser and wait patiently until you are redirected to the view where you can proceed to registration for the SMOWL proctoring software.
  7. Take a facial image of yourself on the SMOWL registration page.

NB: In the Candour ID mobile application, you have a maximum of three attempts to take the picture of your passport/identity (ID photo) and three attempts to take the selfie (Selfie). If you cannot verify your identity within these attempts, the pre-identification process cannot be completed and you cannot proceed in the International UAS Exam selection process.

The facial image read on your passport/identity card and the one taken in SMOWL will be compared. The applicant must be identified as the same person in both of the images to be invited to the first phase written exam. If you do not complete the pre-identification process within the given timetable or the process fails, you cannot be invited to the first phase written exam, and you cannot proceed in the International UAS Exam selection process.

  • If necessary, explore the Candour guide where you can find instructions displayed in the Candour ID app.

Second phase: group interview 8–10 November 2023

Group interviews are organised between 8 November 2023 and 10 November 2023. The second phase is common to all study fields and the applicant participates in only one group interview. The result is valid to all degree programmes using the International UAS Exam you applied for and which first phase written exam you passed.

Who are going to be invited to the second phase group interview?

The most successful applicants of the first phase written exam per study programme are going to be invited to the second phase group interview. In order to be invited to the second phase group interview, the applicant must:
1) successfully complete the first phase written exam (e.g. reach the minimum pass score per section)
2) achieve the required cut-off score of the selected study programme
3) submit an acceptable document to the Studyinfo application form to prove the English language skills, and
4) submit an acceptable identification document to the Studyinfo application form.

The study programme specific cut-off score is the lowest total score of the written exam, which the applicant needs to reach to be invited to the group interview. The number of applicants to be invited per study programme are listed on the table below. The cut-off scores will be published on this site approximately one week before the second phase group interview.

In the Entrance Exam Score Service, you can view your International UAS Exam first phase written exam scores per section.

If you have applied for more than one of the above (three) study programmes, you will be invited to that programme’s interview group which is highest on your list of preferences in your Studyinfo application form, provided that you have passed the written exam and reached the study programme specific cut-off score. If you pass the second phase exam, you may be selected, in the final student selection, to all the study programmes where you had reached the programme specific cut-off score.

The invitations to the group interview are sent approximately one week before the interview. Please make sure that the email address you have given in your Studyinfo application is correct and you have access to your email. The invitations are sent only once. Please note that you must use the same email address throughout the student selection process. Make sure that you have space in your inbox and, if necessary, check your spam and other folders. Please read the invitation carefully and follow the instructions.

Second phase group interview: content, duration and scoring

The group interview involves a discussion among a small group of applicants. They talk about a given topic. The duration for the discussion is approximately 30 minutes. The highest possible score in the interview is 40, and the lowest passing score is 8. The primary emphasis during the group interview is placed upon evaluating the applicants’ proficiency in the spoken English language. Furthermore, the applicants’ adeptness in interpersonal communication is also evaluated within the context of the group interview.

The main focus is on evaluating the applicants’ ability to speak English well. Their communication skills and how well they interact with others are also assessed during the interview.

The evaluation of the group interview will be conducted according to the subsequent assessment criteria:

  • Interaction and contribution
  • Turntaking
  • Spoken Language: Range
  • Spoken Language: Accuracy
  • Spoken Language: Fluency and coherence

The applicant is excepted to express their own opinions and thoughts. If the applicant is suspected of using AI or other sources during the interview, their attempt will be nullified.

Please note that your identity will be checked during the group interview. The identification document that you show in the second phase exam must be the same document as the one you submitted in your application form, otherwise you will be dismissed from the second phase. A picture of the document is not accepted, i.e. you must show the actual identification document during the second phase, in front of the camera.

If you receive an invitation to the second phase of the International UAS Exam and you have been granted individual arrangements for the second phase, please submit the decision on the individual arrangements granted to you to the Admissions Services of the university of applied sciences that sent the invitation by 3 November at 15:00 Finnish time (UTC/GMT+2).

Individual arrangements for the first and second phase of the entrance exam

You can request individual arrangements for completing the first and second phase of the International UAS Exam.

What are the grounds for requesting individual arrangements?

If, due to disability, disease, dyslexia or some other specific reason, you need individual arrangements during the entrance exam (e.g. additional time, tasks without pictures for applicants using a screen reader), you have to fill in a written request for individual arrangements. Please attach a medical certificate or other equivalent attestation on the nature of your disability or disease. The applicants’ situations are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

How do I request individual arrangements for the entrance exam?

You can request individual arrangements with a separate application form for individual arrangements. Submit your request to the Admissions Services of the university of applied sciences using the International UAS Exam that is first on your application form. Please attach a copy of the attestation or statement (e.g. medical certificate) that indicates the ground for individual arrangements. If it is written on another language than Finnish, Swedish or English, the applicant has to provide, in addition to the original attestation or statement, a translated copy of the document with an authorized translator’s name, signature and stamp.

Submit your request for individual arrangements, with the necessary attachments, by 21 September 2023 at 15:00 (UTC/GMT+3) to the Admissions Services of the university of applied sciences using the International UAS Exam that is first on your application form. If you receive an invitation to the second phase of the International UAS Exam, please submit the decision on individual arrangements granted to you to the Admissions Services of the university of applied sciences that sent the invitation by 3 November 2023 at 15:00 (UTC/GMT+2).

Some universities of applied sciences use a printable paper form for requesting individual arrangements. This paper form for requesting individual arrangements used in those UAS is downloadable on this website.

The following UAS use an electronic form for requesting individual arrangements: Laurea University of Applied Sciences (Laurea) and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (Metropolia).

If you request individual arrangements in these universities of applied sciences, please use the electronic form for requesting individual arrangements. Do not use the paper form in these cases.

Please fill in the form carefully. In addition to your request for individual arrangements, please submit your personal and contact details.

The application form for individual arrangements is only used for requesting individual arrangements for the first and second phase of the International UAS Exam. When applying for individual arrangements for any other entrance examination, please follow the instructions of those universities of applied sciences you have applied for.

Attachments to the application form for requesting individual arrangements - attestations and statements

Please attach copies of attestations that support your request (e.g. medical certificate or equivalent statement on the nature of your disease or disability, or certificate on dyslexia or learning difficulty). Those who request support measures, such as additional time, on the grounds of dyslexia have to attach a statement of a trained special needs teacher, an expert psychologist, speech therapist or specialist medical doctor (e.g. child neurologist, neurologist or phoniatrician). The statement shall indicate that you need support measures for taking the exam due to dyslexia. The UAS may accept an equivalent decision made by The Finnish Matriculation Examination Board if it contains the granted support measures.

The validity of statements is assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on the persistence of disability, disease or learning difficulty. For dyslexia, only statements that have been obtained at the age of 16 or later are considered. Do not send original certificates but be prepared to present the originals at the start of your studies should you become accepted to the study programme. Information related to your health shall be kept secret (Section 24, Act on the Openness of Government Activities).

Processing of requests for individual arrangements and announcement of granted individual arrangements

Your request for individual arrangements is processed in that university of applied sciences that uses the International UAS Exam entrance examination and is first on your application form. The UAS will inform you by email on individual arrangements that you have been granted. Individual arrangements that have been granted in advance for the second phase are valid only if you receive an invitation to the second phase.

The announcement on individual arrangements in the entrance examination is exam-specific and valid only in that particular entrance examination.

If, for some reason, individual arrangements cannot be arranged as requested by the applicant, the UAS sends a written notification, with justifications, to the applicant.

Requests for individual arrangements sent after the deadline are processed only in acute, exceptional cases. Individual arrangements cannot be granted if the request is submitted too late, with regard to the timetable of the entrance examination, or individual arrangements are otherwise deemed impossible to arrange.

If the applicant is not satisfied with the arrangements stated in the announcement, they should contact the university of applied sciences without delay so that it can, if necessary, revise its previous decision. When the applicant receives the final joint application selection decision, they can lodge a request for a review on the granted arrangements as part of an appeal against the selection decision.

Final student selection and publishing the results of the International UAS Exam

Final selection of students is done on the basis of the total score of the International UAS Exam. The total score is the sum of the first phase written exam score and the second phase group interview score. The student has to pass both phases of the exam and reach the study programme specific cut-off score in order to be selected. Applicants who do not meet the programme-specific eligibility criteria will not be selected as students.

The results will be published on 24 November 2023 at the latest. You may view your scores in Studyinfo service. You may also be admitted from the waiting list on 12 December 2023 at the latest. Your entrance exam scores will remain valid only for the application round in question.

The questions and the right answers of the entrance exam will not be published. International UAS Exam is deemed a secret official document based on the Act on the Openness of Government Activities, Section 24(22).
